About

Model Home is an inhabitable sculpture that presents a collective portrait of 'home' - one that reflects the Regent Park community and its residents. The final sculpture will display a collection of meaningful personal objects, heirlooms and possessions submitted by local residents. Silhouette cutouts of the objects will be found in each of the sculpture's three rooms, the central dining, bedroom and living room.

Model Home will be located on the corner of Sackville Street and Schuter Street at the entrance of the new Regent Park Community Centre, beside the Nelson Mandela School. Model Home will act as a backdrop or stage set to the entrance plaza. It will also act as a multi-functional space to inhabit and play in. It is envisaged that the three rooms of Model Home will be used for picnics, for sitting and reading, for sleeping, and simply playing 'house', etc. It will be an environment ready for one's imagination.

Paper Model

Model Home will be constructed out of 3 panels of aluminum sheet metal. The documented personal objects will be drawn, scored, and laser-cut to fold out of the aluminum panel. Much of the metal scoring and folding work will be carried out manually by the fabricator. In the evening, exterior grade, inground LED lights are proposed to light each room.
